CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. — A Rhode Island man has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and two other people are facing charges after a dog was found with large tumors, decaying teeth and matted fur.

Central Falls police Lt. Christopher Reed said Wednesday that none of the three could explain the dog’s severe condition, except that no one took care of it. He called it one of the worst animal cruelty cases he has ever seen.

Forty-four-year-old Juan Gonzalez entered a guilty plea Wednesday and was ordered to serve 90 days in prison. The other two suspects pleaded not guilty to charges of animal cruelty, obstructing an officer and conspiracy. They were released and ordered to forfeit ownership of any animals.
