FLOWOOD, Miss. — Authorities say a high school student in Mississippi made a false social media post that included a photo of another student warning he was armed, dangerous, and threatened the school.

News outlets report the 15-year-old could face up to six months in jail after being charged with disseminating threatening information on Wednesday. It’s unclear if the teen has a lawyer.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office and Flowood police say the post went viral regarding a possible threat at Northwest Rankin High School.

Police Chief Richie McCluskey says it was confirmed the post began as “horseplay” and that “no one was ever in harm’s way.”

Officials launched an investigation Tuesday night and spoke to the student accused when he arrived at school, finding no evidence that he had made any threats.
