BLUE GRASS, Iowa — An officer has been injured when his squad car collided with a stolen garbage truck he was chasing near the eastern Iowa city of Blue Grass.

WQAD-TV reports the officer was seriously injured Monday afternoon when a garbage truck hit his squad car during a pursuit on Highway 22. The officer was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane says authorities won’t release the officer’s name or the agency he works for until later.

The driver of the stolen garbage truck also was hurt. He was taken to a hospital for injuries that aren’t considered serious.

Lane says the garbage truck driver will face charges.
