INDIANOLA, Miss. — A Mississippi prison guard has been arrested on conspiracy charges for helping two men escape.

Tenkia Romero was arrested last week by Sunflower County deputies.

The 35-year-old Drew resident is free on $50,000 bail. It’s unclear if she has a lawyer.

James Sanders and Ryan Young were disappeared Sept. 18 from Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.

Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood tells local media that investigators believe Romero picked up Sanders and Young after they escaped their prison unit.

Sanders was recaptured Tuesday in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas. Young was caught Wednesday in Mound Bayou.

Sanders was convicted of murder in Lafayette County and sentenced to life in prison.

Young was serving 40 years after convictions for burglary, grand larcency and illegal gun possession in Claiborne County.
