NORTH VERNON — A Paris Crossing resident was arrested on multiple drug-related charges after a North Vernon police officer stopped his pickup truck on North State Street.

Luke A. Bathory, 21, was arrested at 9:32 p.m. Friday on charges of dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and carrying a handgun without a license, said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, North Vernon Police Department spokesman.

During the traffic stop, officer Kyle Hall requested that Jennings County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Allen Ritchie and K-9 Vampir check Bathory’s vehicle, Richmond said.

Vampir alerted officers to the odor of an illegal drug in the vehicle. Officers found 20 grams of methamphetamine, a Ruger .380 handgun, a set of digital scales and a methamphetamine smoking device in the vehicle, Richmond said. Bathory had a Cobra 9mm handgun with him at the time of the arrest, Richmond said.

Bathory is being held in the Jennings County Jail in lieu of $10,055 bond, Richmond said.
