DOVER, Del. — A U.S. Air Force unit from Dover flew from a Texas air base to Puerto Rico, carrying with it more than 100,000 pounds of food and water.
This disaster relief mission is the fourth in recent days, with two other flights previously deployed to Puerto Rico with a combined total of roughly 212,000 pounds of supplies. Additionally, other missions have brought supplies to the U.S. Virgin Islands, also devastated by Hurricane Maria.
The Dover-based 436th Airlift Wing has transported 1.2 million pounds of cargo and more than 292 passengers to help hurricane relief efforts. The crew deployed on this mission are assigned to the 3rd Airlift Squadron.
Vice Commander Corey Simmons says the unit has been standing by, and are ready and willing to heed any call for aid.
