Seymour Smash deadline approaching

The 2017 Seymour Smash Tennis Tournament is accepting registrations until Saturday.

The tournament will be played on Oct. 14 and 15.

Cost is $35 and covers singles and doubles events (one division each. Mixed doubles is also an option for an extra $5.

All matches to be played at Seymour High School and Trinity Lutheran High School, and is organized by the Seymour Tennis Parent’s Club and all proceeds support the Boys and Girls Seymour Tennis Teams.

The Smash is not able to accept payment electronically; thus after you submit the form, you will need to send payment for the tournament to: Seymour Smash; 10788 N. Co. Rd. 210 E; Seymour, IN 47274. This will complete the registration process.

FOOTBALL

Sectional pairings announced

The IHSAA announced the 2017 football sectional draws Sunday.

Opening round games will be played Oct. 20, the semis will take place on Oct. 27 and championships will fall on Nov. 3

In Class 5A Sectional 15, Seymour opens their postseason by hosting Columbus East.

Should Seymour win, they host Bedford North Lawrence in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, Floyd Central and New Albany will play in the semis.

The Class 3A Sectional 31 bracket boasts eight teams.

Brownstown Central plays at Lawrenceburg in the first round of play. The two teams met in last year’s semistate.

Should they beat LHS, the Braves play the winner of Greensburg and Salem, with location to be determined. BC will host if Salem wins, and play away if GHS is victorious.

On the bottom half of the bracket, Charlestown and Batesville face off while North Harrison takes on Corydon Central.

‘Pink Out’ night planned

The Seymour High School varsity football team will be hosting a “Pink Out” night Friday during its home game against New Albany.

The game starts at 7 p.m., and breast cancer survivors will be recognized during the game.

VOLLEYBALL

Sectional pairings announced

The IHSAA released the 2017 volleyball sectional draws Monday evening.

Matches will be played on Oct. 10, 12 and 14.

The Class 4A Sectional 15 (New Albany) tourney features seven teams.

Seymour gets a bye, and faces the winner of Jennings County and Bedford North Lawrence in the semifinals.

Providence plays New Albany and Jeffersonville has Floyd Central in the bottom half of the bracket for the quarterfinals.

In the seven-team Class 3A Sectional 30 (Silver Creek) draw, Brownstown Central gets a first-round bye.

BC will play the winner of Charlestown and Salem, and Corydon Central takes on Silver Creek and North Harrison will play Scottsburg in the bottom bracket.

In Class A Sectional 62 (Edinburgh) Medora plays Shawe Memorial and Crothersivlle faces West Washington in the quarters.

Winners will meet in the upper bracket while Trinity Lutheran and Edinburgh face off on the other side in the semifinals.
