The Seymour High School Class of 1997’s 20th class reunion took place Sept. 9 at Seymour Elks Lodge 462.

The event began with a meet-and-greet followed by dinner provided by Chris Ent & Company. There were numerous new faces that were first-time reunion attendees as well as ones that had been to every reunion to date.

There were memorabilia pieces throughout, including from the school yearbook, school newspaper and other commemorative items from their senior year. Classmates came from as far as Colorado, Michigan and Kentucky as well as other areas of Indiana and locally.

Julie Powell created a special memorial shadowbox to remember the classmates who have passed on that was well-received by the classmates viewing at the reunion and online. The class has lost 11 classmates to date.

Door prizes were handed out for many different categories. Traveling the farthest to attend was Amanda Robbins Rosenfried, who traveled from Colorado.

Others were given for who had been married the longest, which saw a tie with Angie Stafford and Jay Newberry and Kendra Hazelwood and Dave Zumhingst with 17 years.

There was a tie between Carla Minton Hehman and Amber Holle Williams for who had the most children with four each. Random prize drawings based on attendees’ number at sign-in also were given.

The planning committee has a Facebook group that is called Seymour High School Class of 1997. There is a Google Doc to keep information updated so class members will receive future information.

The 25th reunion will be conducted in 2022.
