A 40-year-old retail company with more than 800 stores across the country will soon begin the hiring process for a new store on Seymour’s east side.

Harbor Freight Tools’ newest Indiana store will be located at 1501 E. Tipton St. in half of a building that once housed an Orscheln Farm & Home store. That store closed in the summer of 2016. The property is in the Village Center, which is owned by Regency Seymour LLC.

According to the Calabasas, California-based company’s permit application filed with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the 15,000-square-foot store will have 10 employees.

The city issued a building permit Tuesday, and construction workers were working inside and outside the building Thursday morning.

Company officials could not be reached to confirm the date the store might open, but a hiring event is planned for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Jackson County Learning Center, 323 Dupont Drive, Seymour.

According to a flier announcing that hiring event, the store closes by 8 p.m. every day and is closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Harbor Freight Tools, which began as a family-owned business in 1977, has grown to more than 800 stores across the United States. The company sells everything from hand tools and generators to air and power tools and automotive tools.

At this time, the nearest Harbor Freight Tools store is located in Eastbrook Plaza in Columbus. There also are Harbor Freight Tools stores in Greenwood and Clarksville.
