Red passed away at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, Indiana on October 10, 2017 at 3:30 a.m. after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Charles best known as (Red) was born January 30, 1928 in North Vernon, Indiana to Aldo and Margaret(Jean)Wade

He attended and graduated from North Vernon High School 1946. He worked part time while in school at Fox Meat Market and also at Ebert’s Brothers delivering ice and coal. Following graduation he worked at Webster Chevrolet as a mechanic until he joined the Army and served from 1951 to 1953, honorably discharged as a Corporal. He returned to work for Webster Chevrolet until he opened his own auto repair (RED’S REPAIR) business in North Vernon. He was a life long mechanic working at various locations, Thompson Motors, Mahan Ford and attained the Certified Automatic Transmission Specialist with Ford Motor Co. He was also an avid race fan. He was a member of USAC Racing, built and raced go-carts, stock cars, 3/4 midgets, and USAC Sprint Cars.

Red was also a Small Engine and equipment mechanic, Maintenance Worker at Ceraland Park in Columbus when he, retired and opened his own Lawn Equipment Repair business. He also worked later in Residential Housing Construction. Red was the type of person that had the talents to repair, build, or construct just about anything he wanted. He loved to work with his hands and mind, if he could visualize it, he could build it, or fix it.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #89 in Seymour.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Rick A. Wade. He and his wife, Thelma were married March 4, 1972. During their married life they fished, danced and enjoyed life to the fullest.

He is survived by his wife, two sons Kevin E. Gabbard, Seymour, and Delbert A. (Veronda) Gabbard, Butlerville, stepdaughter, Terri Grant, Columbus. Grandchildren, Danielle (Greg) Drysdale, Scott Palmer, Jason Dewitt, Sierra (Daniel) Plumm, Preston Gabbard, Tammy (Donald) Ames, Amy (Skyler) Massey, and seven great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by loved ones, Dale and Betty Grant, Tom and Elaine Meier, Richard and Annette Roney and others too numerous to mention.

A funeral service for Mr. Wade will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the Butlerville Mennonite Church in Butlerville with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Family and Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Friday, October 13, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
