FUNABASHI, JAPAN

Shannon, 48, son of Mary Lou (Robbins) Wright and stepson of Dennis Wright was killed in an accident in Funabashi, Japan on September 26, 2017. He was born to William J. McCarthy and Mary Lou (Robbins/McCarthy) Wright on August 26, 1969, in Seymour, Indiana.

Shannon was a member of the Seymour Owls Baseball Team that won the State Championship in 1988. He was athletic and played baseball, basketball, and ran cross country. He loved country music. Living in Japan, he attended cherry blossom festivals and picnics, concerts, musicals, and Grand Prix racing with his many friends. He loved photography and took photos everywhere he went.

Shannon was a computer network engineer and lived and worked in Bermuda, the Netherlands, and Great Britain before finally settling in Japan. He loved traveling overseas but Japan was his country of choice.

He was an alumni of University of Louisville and a member of Triangle Fraternity, U of L Chapter.

Shannon grew up in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour.

He is survived by his wife, Mari Kimura McCarthy in Japan, his mother, his stepfather, his aunt, Nancy Rogers, his uncles, John Robbins and Thomas Robbins, and their children and grandchildren besides his cousins in California. Shannon was much loved by his many friends and the world will be a lesser place without his presence. We will forever hold him dear in our hearts and memories.

His traditional Japanese cremation ceremony was held outside Funabashi, Japan on October 1, 2017.

Shannon, may you find your oo’yunpa in the country you so loved. Wolakota
