Seymour hosting free FAFSA Night

Seymour High School will serve as host of a free FAFSA Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24.

The event, in Room 204, is open to any adult and high school student needing to complete their FAFSA for the 2018-19 academic year.

Student aid experts will be available to provide information and answer questions.

Parents and students will learn how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is required to determine eligibility for most student aid programs, such as the Frank O’Bannon Grant, Federal Pell Grant, institutional awards and federal student and parent loans.

The deadline to submit the FAFSA is March 10, but you have until May 15 to make final corrections.

To complete FAFSA, you will need your Social Security number, your parents’ Social Security number if you are a dependent student, your Alien Registration number (if you are not a U.S. citizen), 2016 income information and 2016 W2s.

Parents of dependent students and students need to obtain their own FSA identification. To do so, go to fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm.

Parents and students will now use a username and password to access their FAFSA and to electronically sign their FAFSA.

You can get your FSA ID as you fill out the FAFSA, but it’s best to obtain your FSA ID ahead of time.

For information on how to create a FSA ID, visit studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid.
