Dale Eugene “Gene” Barringer, 82, of Columbus, formerly of Scipio went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Hickory Creek Healthcare in Greensburg.

Born June 10, 1935 in Scipio, Mr. Barringer was the son of the late Hiram Ormal and Lora Marie Burkman Barringer. He married Carolyn Robison on August 12, 1956 at Bear Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County. She survives.

He was a Christian with a kind, gentle, compassionate nature. He loved laughing and spending time with family and friends. He was a 1953 graduate of North Vernon High School and worked as an electrician and maintenance for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 39 years before retiring in 1996. Mr. Barringer was a member of Scipio United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting, traveling, riding motorcycles, competing in target and trap shooting and restoring John Deere Tractors.

Surviving with his wife Carolyn are son, Jerry (Sheryl) Barringer of Scipio; daughter, Terry (Tom) Ault of Freetown; brother, Roland Barringer of Columbus; sisters, Donna Moore of Seymour and Peggy (Ric) Kleine of Columbus; grandchildren, Leah (Brian) Branaman of Seymour, Rachel (Jimmy) Johnson and Clayton (Nicole) Ault both of Brownstown, Hayley (C.J.) Burnett, Monica Barringer and Logan Barringer all of Scipio and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Scipio United Methodist Church in Scipio with the Rev. Dereck Fields officiating. Family and Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Church. Burial will be in the Bear Creek Baptist Cemetery in Jennings County.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Scipio United Methodist Church or Parkinson’s Foundation for Research.
