Businesses plan to recognize veterans

A couple of local businesses plan to recognize veterans through contests planned for Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

Dr. Linda Fischer, a Seymour optometrist, is sponsoring a program that allows any veteran or active duty service member to enter a drawing for up to $500 off of an exam and a pair of glasses. There will be two winners, a man and a woman.

To enter, visit Fischer’s office at 1125 Medical Place during a Veterans Day party from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 8. Cookies and coffee also will be available, and the winners do not need to be present to win.

For information, call 812-522-1800.

TCC-Verizon also invites people to visit its store at 1327 E. Tipton St. in Seymour today to nominate veterans to receive care packages — valued at $40 each — filled with books, puzzles, hygiene items and more.

Veterans who are chosen for one of the store’s five care packages will be notified by Nov. 3 and can pick up their care packages between Nov. 6 and 10.

Overall, 2,500 veterans will receive care packages in honor of Veterans Day from TCC-Verizon stores across the country.
