Richard Earl “Dick” Embry, 78, of North Vernon passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at his residence.

Born June 20, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, Mr. Embry was the son of Letcher Earl and Clara Downs Embry. He married Gladys Durigan on December 27, 1975 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives.

Mr. Embry retired from the U. S. Navy where he had served from 1956 until 1979 and went to work as a truck driver driving for Mount Trucking in Columbus for ten years, and Eaton Kenway in Seymour for three years. He was a member of Eagles Lodge and a life member of V.F.W. both in Seymour and a former member of American Legion Post #89 in Seymour. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, watching soccer, baseball and boxing.

Surviving with his wife, Gladys are son, Richard Eugene Embry of Portland, Oregon and daughter, Laurie (Travis) Shepherd of North Vernon; sisters, Judith (Don “Sonny”) Smith and Carolyn Jane Scull both of Seymour; grandchild, Jackson Shepherd of North Vernon and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service for Mr. Embry will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Hayden with Father Jerry Byrd officiating and military graveside rites. Family and Friends may call on Monday, October 30, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Members of Seymour Eagles Lodge will provide an Eagles Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home for expenses.
