Sorority meeting combines business, social

A combination October business and social meeting recently was conducted by the Theta Omega chapter of Phi Beta Psi sorority at the Community Foundation of Jackson County in Seymour.

Members wore pink for Spirit Club points carrying out the theme “Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness.”

President Jackie Hill was assisted by Mary Reynolds and Janet Cooper.

A brief report was given on the recent Hen and Chicks food event. Jamie Grinstead talked about the sorority’s food table at the Pink Wagon Market on Nov. 3 and 4 at Celebrations in Seymour.

Beckie Anderson and Cooper told about the Phi Beta Psi bingo featuring baskets, pottery, gift cards and Thirty-One bags on Nov. 14 at the American Legion Annex in Seymour. Doors open at 6 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m.

Taco salads, sandwiches, desserts and drinks will be available. Tickets are $20, with all proceeds going to cancer research, the sorority’s national project. You must be 18 to participate. Tickets are available from all members.

Those furnishing door prizes and auction items should be brought to the business meeting and bingo setup at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the annex.

The 46th annual dinner-dance for cancer is Feb. 3 at Pewter Hall in Brownstown. The committee is now selecting queen contestants.

Mary Reynolds and Jan Robinson were the sorority’s delegates at the Indiana State Convention on Oct. 20 and 21 at Renaissance Indianapolis North in Carmel. Noblesville was the host chapter. Reynolds was selected to carry the red rose in the memorial service representing a Theta Omega chapter member, Emma Aikman.

A letter was read from the national first vice president telling about the National Convention July 12 through 14, 2018, at Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Jo Pfaffenberger said the next social will at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Woodstock Grill in Seymour.

Doris Baurle was awarded THETO.

Hostesses Reynolds, Melanie Klakamp, Jennifer Payton and Bobbie Sue Sweany served soups, vegetables, chips and fruit salad to the 19 members present. Door prizes went to Angi Reynolds, Grinstead, Joan Trimpe and Kathleen Johnson.
