Larry A. Burkman, 67, of Freetown, passed from this life at 7:58 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Burkman retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1999 as a journeyman electrician where he had served for 30 years.

Larry was a devoted husband, beloved father and cherished grandfather.

He treasured his time with family, especially his fishing trips with each son this year.

He valued his mornings of reading the Bible stories of worship.

Larry looked forward to any and all hunting and fishing trips, especially the annual family hunt in November.

He never missed an opportunity to teach, even the smallest lesson to someone.

Larry loved his tractors, and his biggest joy was his mini excavator.

He enjoyed life at his home with his wife, Barb, and dog, Willie.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Martin E. Wright officiating.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. to time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

In keeping with the families wishes, cremation is planned following the service.

Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, American Heart Association or Riley Hospital for Children.

Larry was born June 13, 1950 in Columbus. He was the son of Glenn and Nellie Shaw Burkman.

He married, Barbara S. Hundley on November 24, 1967.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara Burkman; their sons, Douglas A. (Becky) Burkman of Greensburg, Bryan C. (Angel) Burkman of Franklin and Andrew J. (Stacy) Burkman of Scipio; grandchildren, Breanna Burkman, Jessica Burkman, Mary Franklin Burkman, Bradly Burkman, Hunter Burkman, Delany Burkman, Drew Burkman and Milas Burkman; brother, Mark L. Burkman of Columbus, sister, Kathy J. (Rik) Sanders of Columbus; sister-in-law, Lois Burkman of Elizabethtown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Burkman; and a niece, Sarah Burkman.
