NEWTON, N.J. — Authorities say the former treasurer of a northern New Jersey school district’s parent-teachers association has admitted taking more than $15,000 from the group.
Sussex County prosecutors say Aimee Lowry-Crane pleaded guilty Thursday to misapplication of entrusted property. They say the 40-year-old Hamburg resident will have to serve a 60-day county jail sentence and a probation term.
Prosecutors say Lowry-Crane admitted taking the money from the Hamburg PTA between June 2014 and March 2016. She returned about two-thirds of the stolen funds when her theft was discovered and has agreed to repay the remaining $5,900 when she’s sentenced Jan. 26.
Lowry-Crane kept much of the money in her house and co-mingled some of the PTA money with her personal funds.
