BEAUMONT, Texas — Investigators say they’ve dropped a capital murder charge against a Southeast Texas man that had accused him of killing a pregnant woman whose unborn daughter also died.

A Beaumont police statement says the charge against 22-year-old Jared Javon Bias of Beaumont was dropped after further investigation revealed that several juveniles were responsible for the deaths of 19-year-old Kera Teel and her unborn daughter. Police Officer Haley Morrow says the suspects have been identified and are in custody on other charges.

However, Bias remains in custody charged in unrelated criminal cases.

Police have said they believe 19-year-old Kera Teel was shot during a string of attempted robberies. Teel, who was seven months pregnant, was found in her car in a parking lot. She and her unborn child died at a hospital.
