Theater presents ‘Babes in Toyland’

Jackson County Community Theatre will present “Babes in Toyland” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1, 2, 8 and 9 and at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 3 and 10 at Royal Off-the-Square Theatre, 121 W. Walnut St., Brownstown.

This is the second show of the theater’s mainstage season.

The show features fantasy characters of the classic Victor Herbert creation, including Contrary Mary, Tom-Tom, Little Bo Peep, Boy Blue and their friends. The show is an updated version by Ken Holaman.

The show revolves around fear among those in Mother Goose Village that Christmas may not happen because Barnaby, the miser of the village, threatens to foreclose the mortgage on the old woman’s shoe. The group sets out on an adventure to Toyland to seek help from the master toymaker. The travel includes some obstacles, as the group has to go through the Haunted Forest.

The show is directed by John Rohlfing and assisted by Julie Rohlfing. Danielle Spurgeon is the music director. Cast members are Frank Donnelly, Katrina Hardwick, Maggie Rohlfing, Paul Keller, Bridget Bingham, Max Maschino, Lucy Horton, Jake Bohn, Jack Charlton, Bryce Osborne, Evan Rohlfing, Rylen Osborne, Lilly Charlton, Maddie Jones, Victoria Gomez, Michelle Elkins, Reese Osborne, Tyce Hardwick, Danny Stout, Katie Rohlfing, Megan Keller, Karen Haas, Derek Haas, Erica Bohn, Emily Keller, Claire Schepman, Alyssa Dusendang, Isabel Perez, Addisyn Osborne, Kalyn Ritz, Stephanie Sunderman, Lily Abdulbari, Shawn Charlton, Kylen Terry, Salisha Roberson, Maggie Calhoun, Alyssa Haas, Annie Keller and Olivia Keller.

The cost of regular admission is $12.00, while it’s $10 for senior citizens and students. Tickets may be purchased at Family Drug in Brownstown or Artistic Impressions in Seymour or online at jcct.org.

The JCCT season is presented with the assistance of a grant from the arts partnership of the Indiana Arts Commission, National Endowment for the Arts and Columbus Area Arts Council.
