MDwise outreach event planned in Seymour

Jackson County residents with health coverage through the Healthy Indiana Plan will have a couple of chances to change their health plan between now and Dec. 15 for 2018.

To help people understand their options and make the right choices, MDwise is hosting more than 125 Health Benefits Connections events across the state, including one in Seymour.

The information session in Seymour will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Community Health Center of Jackson County, 113 N. Chestnut St.

The nonprofit organization also will attend other community events to answer questions during this period.

“We know that insurance can be confusing, and we really want to help educate Hoosiers about how it works,” said Hollie Arruda, director of marketing for MDwise. “That’s why we are going into communities all over the state to meet one-on-one with people to help them navigate the process and put them in touch with the right resources.”

In June, MDwise announced plans to pull out of the state’s federal health care marketplace, but it still offers Healthy Indiana Plan for adults 19 to 64, who meet specific income guidelines, and Hoosier Healthwise for children and pregnant women to county residents.

In September, 4,147 people in Jackson County were enrolled in Hoosier Healthwise and another 2,365 were enrolled in the Healthy Indiana Plan, according to the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.

CareSource and Managed Health Services replaced MDwise and Anthem, which also pulled out of the federal health care marketplace.

Attendees may RSVP at MDwise.org/events, but it is not required.

MDwise has full-time outreach representatives throughout Indiana to assist Hoosiers with understanding health coverage. In southeast Indiana alone, outreach reps will conduct five Health Benefits Connection events where they will address such topics as determining the best health plan for individuals and families, the benefits of HIP Plus, benefit renewal and enrolling for the first time.

To request that a MDwise outreach representative be present at a specific location, community event or faith community, contact Nicki Gilbert at 317-822-7282.

MDwise and MDwise Marketplace are nonprofit health maintenance organizations focused on providing health coverage to Indiana individuals and families.
