PLYMOUTH, Wis. — Plymouth police say the remains of an adult have been located in the aftermath of a fire at a downtown apartment building.

Fire officials earlier Thursday said a mother who ran into the burning building to look for her children had not been found. Police Lt. Jason Schmelter said at a news conference that the remains have not yet been identified. The four-alarm fire broke out in the downtown building about 1 a.m. Thursday. Authorities say the woman who ran into the building didn’t realize her two children had already made it out safely.

There are about 15 apartments on the second and third floor of the building. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation.
