BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Nate Darling scored 19 points, Zack Bryant and Jalen Perry added 17 apiece and UAB muscled past Chattanooga pounding the ball inside for an 89-47 win Monday night.

The Blazers (2-0) outscored Chattanooga 42-16 in the paint, held a 51-22 rebounding edge, including 35 defensive rebounds, and had 10 steals.

Darling was 7-of-11 shooting and had a pair of steals, Bryant was 4 of 6 from the floor and made 8 of 9 free throws. Chris Cokley scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds for his second double-double in as many games. Perry’s 17 points were a career high.

David Jean-Baptiste led the Mocs (0-2) with 12 points and Makale Foreman added 11. Chattanooga shot just 35 percent (19-54) against the Blazers.

UAB jumped out to a 13-0 lead and never trailed, with Darling scoring the first points 30 seconds in and Cokley following with a tip-in after a Darling miss. The Blazers led 43-21 at halftime.
