THIBODAUX, La. — A new president has been chosen for Nicholls State University.

The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors named Jay Clune president of the Thibodaux-based university on Tuesday.

Clune most recently has served as interim graduate dean at the University of West Florida, where he has held various administrative posts over the past 13 years.

The university system says in a news release that Clune is a Nicholls graduate and a native of Houma.

Clune becomes the sixth Nicholls State president. He succeeds Bruce Murphy who announced in September that he would be leaving by the end of the year.
