State podiatrists collecting socks for homeless vets

Indiana Podiatry Group is accepting new or gently used socks for homeless veterans around central Indiana from now until Dec. 31 for its third annual Sock it to IPG sock collection drive.

Donations can be dropped off at 1239 E. Fourth Street Road in Seymour or 1910 Parkside Drive in Columbus.

At the end of each year, the organization conducts the sock collection drive as a way to give back to the Hoosiers who served our country.

The goal is to collect as many socks as possible to donate to homeless veterans and their families in and around central Indiana. Last year, the group collected more than 2,800 pairs of socks. In 2015, more than 1,100 socks were collected in addition to blankets and the group’s inventory of Rx Crocs.

All donations are presented to the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless veterans find jobs and providing them with food, shelter and necessary items.
