The Jackson County Public Library board of trustees approved a 2018-20 technology plan when the board met Monday at the Seymour Library.

The plan includes a summary of new technology in 2017: Upgrades to wireless networks and increasing internet speed at the Seymour Library using e-rate funding; a new open-book, dual-page scanner purchased with a state digitization grant; addition of EZProxy to allow offsite access to databases previously only available in the library; and adding Netflix to circulating Kindle Fire devices.

Items planned for purchase from 2018 to 2020 include replacing and installing security cameras, evaluating branch internet access and establishing core technology competencies for staff.

Information technology specialist Ben Boyer also gave the board an update on his job duties.

The board also approved staff changes and closing April 20, 2018, for all staff to attend the Indiana Library Federation District VI Conference in New Albany.

The nominating committee presented a slate of officers for 2018, which will be approved at the December meeting: President, Josh Bartley; vice president, Kathy Ellis; secretary, Susan Haskett; assistant secretary, Sally Crouch; and treasurer, Mary Reed.

The board’s next meeting is at 5 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Seymour Library.
