Donald “Jack” Stamper, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017, at his residence.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Adrian Krebs will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017, at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.

Born February 3, 1944, in Dupont, Jack was the son of the late James and Geneva Whisman Stamper. He married Helen Hunter on November 24, 1971. She survives.

Jack retired in 2009 from INDOT as a project supervisor. Following retirement, he worked for Kings Trucking and Excavating as a job estimator. He was a member of First Christian Church, North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59, Rolling Hills Shrine Club, Murat Temple, Scottish Rite, and was a former member of the Seymour Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golf, working on cars, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Helen, Jack is survived by one son, Gary (Julie) Stamper of North Vernon; two brothers, Marvin (Kay) Stamper of Shelbyville and Howard “Dutch” (Janet) Stamper of North Vernon; one sister, Sandra Stamper of North Vernon; two grandchildren, Jordan (Brandon) Stamper and Greyson (Apple) Stamper; and six great-grandchildren, Kolton, Karlie, Blakely, Charlee, Makeyla and Ayden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Geneva Stamper and one son, Scott Stamper.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society or donor’s choice of charity.
