COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. — Authorities say a 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with a shooting inside a central Virginia mall that left a man critically injured.

Authorities announced late Saturday that Jerry L. Brooks Jr. of Richmond had been arrested by U.S. marshals.

Police say the shooting took place around 1:30 Saturday afternoon at a mall in Colonial Heights, about 20 miles south of Richmond.

Responding officers found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The mall was evacuated, but authorities said the suspect and victim knew each other and called the shooting an isolated incident.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Brooks is charged with aggravated malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He’s being held without bond, pending a court hearing Monday.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.
