ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — Two people have pleaded not guilty following a crash that left a woman dead on the side of a Vermont road.
Vermont State Police say they found 46-year-old Mattie Lynn Hale dead Saturday in Lyndonville, about 40 miles northeast of Montpelier.
Police say 41-year-old Gary Hale has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Police say 47-year-old Katrina Haslam was a passenger in the vehicle and is charged with being an accessory after the fact.
Police found the vehicle damaged at a home less than half a mile from where Mattie Hale was hit.
Gary Hale said he knew the victim and her family, but the two are not related despite a shared last name.
