COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Authorities have identified the misdemeanor theft suspect who was fatally shot by Colorado Springs police.

The Gazette reports that Christopher Louis Willard was shot by police Saturday evening. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says Willard fought the officers and pulled out what was later determined to be a BB gun while resisting arrest.

Willard was wanted in an Aug. 18 theft.

The officers, whose names have not been released, were treated for minor injuries and placed on leave during the investigation.

The sheriff’s office says body-camera footage is being used in the investigation.
