FLORISSANT, Mo. — Suburban St. Louis officers are targeting unsuspecting drivers and issuing “summonses of joy” instead of tickets.

KSDK-TV reports that the joy comes in the form of $100 Target gift cards. Florissant police have 98 of the gift cards to hand out through Christmas. That’s the most they’ve had in the three years that they’ve participated in the campaign.

A TV crew rode along with Sgt. Andy Haarmann as he spread mirth. Reactions included, “You aren’t coming to arrest me are you?” and “Hope you have a good holiday. You made mine.”

Area churches donated the money for the gift cards.
