THORNTON, Colo. — A man is dead after authorities say he was shot by a deputy in suburban Denver during a fight.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office says the deputy had injuries to his head and neck and was taken to a hospital early Thursday morning.

The sheriff’s office says the deputy was sent to an apartment to check on someone and overheard a disturbance in a neighboring unit. It says a man fled from the apartment and the fight started when the deputy tried to stop him.
