BROWNSTOWN

Brownstown Central’s girls basketball team shell-shocked Clarksville.

The Braves sank 11 3-pointers — on 19 total made field goals — to earn a 59-31 Mid-Southern Conference victory Tuesday.

Brownstown scored the most points, while also giving up the fewest, for a game this season in the win.

The Braves (9-4, 4-2 MSC) shelled the Generals (4-11, 0-5 MSC) in the first quarter by draining six 3-pointers.

BC opened the game on a 13-0 run, capped by two-3-pointers from Madison Klinge and a trey by Shelby Stuckwisch.

Jasmine Walker scored four straight points for the Generals before the Braves closed the quarter on a 9-3 run on 3s from Tayler Garland, Hayley Thomas and Halle Hehman.

At the end of the first quarter, the Braves led 22-7.

The Braves allowed just two more points before intermission.

In the final 6:56 of the first half, the Braves scored 16 unanswered points.

A 3-pointer by Payton Farmer marked the sixth different BC player to make one from deep with 6:07 on the clock. Seven different Braves would hit a 3-pointer in the game.

Free throws by Farmer, with 13 ticks left on the clock, put the Braves up 39-9 at intermission.

The Braves made 13 field goals to the Generals’ three in the first 16 minutes of play.

Shelby Stuckwisch topped the Braves with 10 points, and seven of the eight BC players that took the floor scored in the first half.

“I thought, in the first half, the starters and subs played really well,” Braves coach Karla Rieckers said. “We were moving the ball and getting the shots we wanted. I was glad to see us have confidence with those shots.”

BC extended its lead to 46-13 by the 3:28-mark in the third quarter on a basket by Schroer, 3-pointer from Klinge and and-one conversion from Kristen Stuckwisch.

The Braves emptied the bench halfway through the quarter, and led 51-19 at the end of 24 minutes of play.

While the Generals outscored the Braves 12-8 in the fourth quarter, the deficit proved too large for the visitors.

Rieckers said it was important for the team to stay focused throughout the game.

“We talked about wanting to play our game and not at their level,” Rieckers said. “We want to continue to improve, so I think it’s important to play hard and well. You can’t relax and take it easy.”

Garland and Shelby Stuckwisch each scored 10 points to lead the Braves while Walker topped the Generals with 16.

The Braves outrebounded the Generals 25-17.

Brownstown Central played 12 different girls in the game, and 10 players putting up at least one point.

“I think its good to get varsity experience for (the underclassmen),” Rieckers said. “You can see a little nervousness from them. They don’t play as confidently as they do on JV, but they’re kids who need to step up for us in another year. Hopefully when we go to Toby Yoho (tournament, Dec. 29 to 30) we can get them some more varsity minutes when we play four games in two days.”

Brownstown will host Silver Creek on Saturday for another conference game.
