Cougars hire new volleyball coach

Trinity Lutheran High School announced the hiring of Faith Wilder-Newland as its new varsity head volleyball coach Thursday.

Wilder-Newland’s accomplishments, via East Columbus Volleyball Club’s website, include:

  • Started East Columbus Volleyball Club in 1999 after coaching with South Central Indiana Volleyball Association from 1988 to 98,
  • Played 3 years varsity at Jennings County High School and 4 years at Franklin College.
  • 2002 Jack Cramer Ideals of Athletic Competition Award Winner.
  • All-Conference Coach of the Year: 1993-00, ’02, ’04, ’07, ’09, ’10, ’12.
  • 1997 and 2010 South Coach of the Year; 1995 District 4 Coach of the Year.
  • First Indiana high school coach to play and later coach in a Final Four.
  • 24 years as Columbus East High school varsity coach. Career varsity coaching record: 639-196 (76.5 percent).
  • As SCIVA 14s coach: finished 5th in Open division at USA Girls’ Volleyball Nationals in 1994 and 3rd in Club division in 1998; finished 5th at AAU Nationals in 1994.
  • Coached ECVC teams at AAU Nationals to 11th in 2012, 13th in 2014 and 3rd in 2015.
  • 32 years coaching experience through club and high school levels.
