Madison Klinge has never had a problem keeping busy after school at Brownstown Central.

She has been a three-sport athlete throughout her time at BCHS, playing basketball and running track both for four years, and competing in cross-country and volleyball each for two years.

Klinge has been a three-year varsity starter in basketball.

“I’ve played more off-guard these past two years than my sophomore year,” Klinge said.

“I started playing basketball in fourth grade (at St. John’s Sauers). We played in a city league in Seymour.”

She said she likes shooting 3-pointers, and also taking the ball to the rim.

Klinge said it depends on the opponent whether she would rather face man or zone defenses.

Her high-point games were 16 against Paoli her sophomore year and 16 against Charlestown last season. Her high this season has been 11 against Henryville.

The Braves are 9-4, and won 15 games last winter.

Klinge said the team has been successful.

“We’re all starting at a young age, and start playing together, so that helps us out,” she said. “Most of us this year have played varsity at least two years. We all have varsity experience and we’re a close-knit team so that helps a lot, too.”

She said her favorite away gyms are Seymour and Charlestown.

The senior looks forward to playing in the Toby Yoho Tournament at Eastern Green on Dec. 29 and 30.

“In middle school we always went to tourneys, so that was always fun, and then it’s good because we play different teams that we never see during the season,” Klinge said.

The Braves will face Edgewood and North Daviess in their two pool games.

Klinge said her hard work in cross-country paid off for her as she made top seven at the end of the season and helped the Braves qualify for regional and semi-state.

“During practice we would run all throughout town and stuff, so that was fun,” she said. “It was always like a steady pace most of the time so we could have conversations while we were running. We became really good friends, all of us girls on the team.”

He career-best time was 22:57.

Klinge has had a lot of success in track as she had been a Mid-Southern Conference champion in the 4×100 relay, and a regional qualifier in two relays and the 300 hurdles.

“These past two years I started running hurdles and I really came to like that,” Klinge said. “The 300 hurdles is fun. I started running the 100 meter hurdles, and I started to like that a lot more, too. I’m two seconds off the school record in the 300 hurdles so I want to keep dropping that time. I want to make it to regionals again.”

Of the relays, she said the 4×400 is her favorite.

Klinge said her athletics and academic career at Brownstown has been fun.

“I made a lot of friends through sport,” she said. “I’ve made really good memories and stuff.

“Our teachers are great. They really know how to get to know you and work one-on-one with you. The community here is really awesome.”
