CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UNC Charlotte has announced director of athletics Judy Rose will retire effective June 30.
Rose is in her 43rd year with the 49ers and her 28th as director of athletics.
UNC Charlotte chancellor Dr. Philip Dubois said in a release the decision was entirely Rose’s and “her work ethic, values, integrity, commitment to student success, and understanding of college athletics makes finding her successor a most difficult challenge. She has left a legacy that will be nearly impossible to match.”
Rose was the third woman to lead an NCAA Division I athletics program and the first woman named to the NCAA Division I men’s basketball committee.
However, Rose recently came under fire for the struggles of school’s football and basketball programs. She fired men’s basketball coach Mark Price last month.
