RENO, Nev. — A Reno lawyer says the family of two black teens have a filed a lawsuit against a northwest Nevada school district and city.
The family says the two 14-year-olds, Jayla Tolliver and Taylissa Marriott, have been racially bullied for months at Yerington High School and have also been threatened by fellow students.
The family says their complaints and reports have not made much of a difference.
The family filed a lawsuit against the Lyon County School District and the City of Yerington on Thursday for violations of the Civil Rights Act.
The lawsuit seeks to order the school district to comply with anti-bullying laws and have the Yerington Police Department investigate the threats.
The school district said in a statement that student and staff safety was its top priority.
