LOS ANGELES — A 1984 Olympic boxing gold medalist has been charged with committing lewd acts on a child.

Paul Gonzales is accused of grooming and committing lewd acts with a girl under 14 last year. She was a student at an East Los Angeles boxing club where he’s coached for a decade.

On Friday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department asked for public help in finding other potential victims. Authorities say Gonzales had access to many children as head coach at the Eddie Heredia Boxing Club.

Gonzales was arrested on Dec. 29 and remains jailed. The eight felony charges against him include committing lewd acts with a child and possessing child pornography. It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer.

Gonzales won the light flyweight boxing gold medal at the 1984 Olympics.
