Local theater preparing Maine-based comedy

Jackson County Community Theatre’s 2018 dinner theater production of “Almost, Maine” will be performed at 6 p.m. Feb. 16, 17, 23 and 24 at The Pines Evergreen Room in Seymour.

In addition to the dinner shows, a nondinner show will be at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 18.

This year marks the 38th year that JCCT and The Pines Restaurant have partnered to provide the dinner theater.

“Almost, Maine” takes place in the cold north woods of Maine in a town called Almost. It was not quite big enough to be a real town, so it’s “almost” one.

As the Northern Lights flicker in the sky, hearts are warm with stories that (theoretically) all happen at one magical moment in time. Residents of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised, hearts are broken, knees and hearts mend — usually — in this midwinter night’s dream.

The show is directed by Stacey Williams. This will be her first time directing a JCCT show, but she has been seen on the JCCT stage several times, most recently in last year’s dinner theater show, “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Cast members are Austin Bailey as Pete, Grace Beach as Ginette, Matt Nieman as East and Daniel, Annie Bingham as Glory and Marci, Karen Haas as Sandrine and Shelly, Paul Keller as Jimmy and Dave, Kathy Nelson as the waitress and Hope, Katrina Hardwick as Marvalyn and Deena, Greg Simons as Steve and Phil, Megan Keller as Gayle and Rhonda and Steve Windley as Lendall.

Producer for the show is JCCT board President Kathrine Stahl, and Nelson is stage manager.

Four cast members (Bailey, Beach, Bingham and Windley) are appearing on the JCCT stage for the first time, while Nieman, Haas, Nelson, Hardwick and Simons and Paul and Megan Keller will be familiar faces to JCCT patrons.

Set construction is under the direction of the Joe Crew (Bradley, McGill and Reynolds), and the technical crew members are Aaron Wright and Elyse McGill.

Reservations are required for the dinner shows. They may be made online at the group’s website, jcct.org. In addition, tickets may be ordered by phone at 812-358-5228 or by email at [email protected].

The Feb. 18 nondinner matinee, also at The Pines Evergreen Room, does not require reservations. All tickets for the nondinner show are general admission and are available at the door before the performance.

The dinner show is sponsored by a grant from the Seymour Oktoberfest committee. In addition, JCCT has received support for the season from the arts partnership of Indiana Arts Commission, Columbus Area Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts. The Community Foundation of Jackson County also has supported JCCT this season with a grant for equipment purchase.
