Special Olympics is coming back to Jackson County.

The new county management team will conduct an informational meeting for athletes and volunteers from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Boys & Girls Club of Seymour, 950 N. O’Brien St.

Special Olympics is a not-for-profit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletics competition in more than 20 Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The county management team plans to start a weekly unified walking club and then progress into other sports offerings.

At the meeting, athletes will learn about the sports or activities in which they can participate, while volunteers can learn how they could help with coaching and events.
