BATON ROUGE, La. — Officials say a man struck by a train is in critical condition.

Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. tells The Advocate of Baton Rouge the 49-year-old unidentified man was trying to cross the tracks when he was hit by a northbound train Monday night.

The incident caused a nearby highway to be shut down for several hours.
