JERSEY CITY, N.J. — A New Jersey prosecutor is alleging that a man accused of robbing, beating and stabbing an elderly woman to death two years ago used proceeds from the crime to woo his ex-girlfriend. reports that Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor David Feldman said in his closing argument Tuesday that 50-year-old Jeffrey Harley committed the crimes on the same day his ex-girlfriend posted a photo of herself online with her new boyfriend.

Feldman said Harley then used proceeds of the February 2016 crime that cost the life of 81-year-old Lucinda Cardenas Viejo to take his ex-girlfriend out on the town.

Defense attorney Jonathan Gordon argued that his client had money and a job, wasn’t linked to the crime by DNA, and there was no evidence that he knew the victim had money.
