LODI, N.J. — New Jersey police say a would-be victim foiled an attempted theft by tackling the attempted robber.

Lodi police responded to the El Machetico Columbiano early Monday after receiving a call that someone attempted to rob the register. The Record reports the unidentified suspect approached the register and demanded money, placing his hand under his shirt to make it look like he was armed.

Deputy Police Chief Donald Scorzetti says the victim then tackled the attempted robber, who then fled the scene. Police say nothing was stolen and no one was injured.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact local detectives.
