Brownstown Central High School student-run coffee shop conducts grand opening

The aromas of fresh-brewed coffee and fresh-baked cookies are in the air upon walking into Brownstown Central High School.

Brewed Awakening, a student-run coffee shop, has been open for business a couple of weeks for a half-hour in the mornings before school and 20 minutes after school for students and staff members.

The shop also will be open to the public for two hours before high school basketball games, including tonight’s boys game against Columbus East.

Proceeds benefit the school’s DECA Club, which is a worldwide high school club that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and business management and administration.

Below are some pictures from today’s grand opening.

Also, juniors Destiny Mowdy and Arly Peters recently placed second in the Jackson County Maverick Challenge high school business-planning competition with a presentation on the coffee shop. They advance to the regional competition.

Look for stories on the shop and the Maverick Challenge in an upcoming issue of The Tribune and online at tribtown.com.
