Paula B. Fuhrmann, 91, of Ossian, Indiana and a former longtime resident of Decatur died February 14, 2018 at Ossian Health & Rehabilitation.

She was born in Jackson County, Indiana on August 1, 1926 to the late Clarence Shoemaker and the late Selma (Schneider) Shoemaker. She married Elbert Fuhrmann on November 24, 1973 in Fort Wayne.

Paula graduated from Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Illinois in 1948. She was a Missouri Synod Lutheran school teacher having taught in Arkansas, Nebraska, Oregon, & Indiana.

Paula was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.

She is survived by her husband, Elbert Fuhrmann of Ossian; daughter, Dianne (Gregory) Clark of Decatur; son, Rev. Russell (Kathy) Fuhrmann of Decatur; brother, Erman (Betty) Shoemaker of Vallonia, IN; brother-in-law, David Sholtis of Highland, IL; six grandchildren, Matthew (Danielle) Clark, Sara Clark, Zachary (Mary) Clark, Karen (Herbert) Mann, John (Stephanie) Fuhrmann, & Ellen Fuhrmann; & six great-grandchildren, Adam, Jonah, Gideon, & Caleb Clark & Nathaniel & Alexis Fuhrmann.

Paula was preceded in death by a brother & sister-in-law, George & Mary Shoemaker and three sisters & two brothers-in-law, Mildred & Arthur Von Dielingen, Gertrude & Albert Wolka, & Althea Sholtis.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1: 30 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church located at 3705 S. Anthony Blvd in Fort Wayne with Pastor Jeff Geisler officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the services at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.

A 2nd Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church located at 4381 IN-135 in Vallonia, IN with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg officiating. Visitation will held on Monday from 9 a.m. until the services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vallonia. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Outreach Ministry, Liberian Children’s Ministry through New Life Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.
