Braves close regular season with win on road

ORLEANS

A big third quarter lifted Brownstown Central to a 55-46 win Friday at Orleans in the final game of the regular season for both teams.

Only leading 26-24 at halftime, the Braves (17-6) came out of the break and outscored Orleans (11-12) 20-12 in the third quarter. They then managed to maintain the lead in the final eight minutes.

Cameron Luedeman led all scorers with 16 points, while Michael Boshears had 14 and Braden Neal scored 11 for the Braves. All three of them made two 3-pointers apiece.

Orleans was led by Duncan Gerkin’s 13 points, and Cooper Stalker added 11.

Cougars’ late rally falls short

RISING SUN

Scoring 37 points in the final quarter wasn’t enough for Trinity Lutheran to make a comeback Friday night at Rising Sun.

In a high-scoring affair, the host Shiners came out on top 91-81.

Rising Sun had the scoring advantage in each of the first three quarters, leading 68-44 going into the final quarter.

Trinity had an offensive outburst in the fourth quarter, outscoring Rising Sun by 14 points, but the Cougars had dug themselves into too big of a hole to pull out the win.

Jacob Rowe led the Cougars (7-16) with 24 points, including six 3-pointers, and Tyler Goecker was next with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. The other double-figure scorers were A.J. Goecker with 14 points and Trent Shoemaker with 13.

Brent Turner led all scorers with 26 points for Rising Sun (12-10), while teammates Jason McClellan and Trenton Gridley each finished with 12.
