Adult Book Club to meet at public library

The Adult Book Club at Brownstown Public Library plans to meet at 11 a.m. March 9 to discuss “Winter Garden” by Kristin Hannah.

The book focuses on Meredith and Nina Whitson, who are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard, while the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist.

When their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters. As children, the only connection between them was the Russian fairy tale Anya sometimes told the girls at night.

The club provides an informal, congenial atmosphere for patrons 18 and older to share their literary interpretations of the current book selection. Everyone is encouraged to read the month’s selection before the meeting but may attend even if they haven’t finished the book as long as they don’t mind hearing how the book ends. Everyone also is encouraged to participate in the discussion, but listeners are welcome.

Registration is required for this program led by Karen Raymer at the library at 120 E. Spring St., Brownstown.
