8th-grader advances to state in math competition

A Seymour Middle School eighth-grader recently advanced to the state MATHCOUNTS competition, set for Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute.

Michael Proffer is one of more than 60 students from six area schools who recently competed in the 2018 regional MATHCOUNTS competition at Seymour Middle School. Other schools competing in the regional were Northside Middle School and Central Middle School of Columbus, University Elementary School and Bloomington Project School of Bloomington and St. Rose Middle School of Franklin.

MATHCOUNTS is a national middle school competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievements through a series of individual and team contests. Competitions are conducted on the local, regional, state and national level to recognize the achievements of participating “mathletes.”
