Emil Gibson Celebrates 100th Birthday

Emil Gibson of Indianapolis, formerly of Brownstown, celebrated his 100th birthday with an open house attended by 66 family members and friends.

Emil was born in Sparksville on Feb. 13, 1918. He graduated from Medora High School in 1936. In 1940, he married Mary Louise Sons of Medora. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2000. His wife, Mary, passed away in 2004.

Emil has two children, Ron Gibson and Marta (Don) Orwig, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Emil had five generations that attended the celebration.

Emil worked as a heavy equipment operator on construction. His interests included flying his Cub Super Cruiser and traveling to numerous countries. He and his family spent a year in Cambodia in 1958 while he worked on a government project.

Emily currently resides in his home of 29 years in Indianapolis.
