Michael “Mick” Allen Gray, 71, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2018, at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, Florida. He was a native of Jackson County, Indiana, born on August 19, 1946 to Hugh and Bobbie Gray.

He was a 1964 graduate of Brownstown Central High School. Mick married Myrna Wessel on May 21, 1964. Mick worked at Pepsi Distribution, Sears, and Arvin’s, and Cummins Engine Company. He retired from Cummins after 39 years of grade A- service.

Mick had many pleasures in life. He enjoyed buying, selling, and trading horses and various livestock. He may be known as the first person from Vallonia, Indiana, to own a buffalo. In his younger years, he enjoyed watching dirt track racing. After his retirement, he could be found either at the various feed mills or barber shops visiting with people, or mowing grass all around the community. He had fun at many bluegrass music festivals in his retirement. He also found joy in visiting with friends and family. He will be remembered by many for his quick wit, many pranks, and his ability to entertain with an embellished story beyond belief. A little-known fact about Mick is that he was a surprisingly good singer and could play a few instruments. Mick was also known for his concern for others and his willingness to help out however he could.

Left with memories of Mick, are his wife Myrna, his children Jeffrey “Single and ready to mingle” Gray, Timothy Allen (Cindy) Gray, Kimberly Sue (Mark) Isaacs, Carrie Ann(Logan) Davisson, and his greatest blessing was in December of 1971, with the birth of James Allen (Misty) Gray. His siblings, Jack Gray, Terry Gray and Tammi (John) Hackman. Mick was proud to be blessed with 15 grandchildren: Jason (Melissa) Gray, John (Kristi) Gray, Daphane Gray, Dustin (Jamie) Gray, Jordan (Cheyenne Gilley) Gray, Karcyn (Nick Davers) Gray, Kayla (Zachary) Timberlake, Macey (Hunter) Kleinjan, Marcus Isaacs, Matthew (Loretta) Davisson, Jeremy (Kimberly) Davisson, Chasady (Stephen) Richard, Shane Davisson, Shelby (Eli) Brown, and Katelyn Gray. He was blessed beyond measure with 24 great-grandchildren.

Mick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Gray, whom he shared his birthday with.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Hope Hospice of Fort Myers, Florida, for their attentiveness and loving care.

The family asks that in honor of Mick, memorials be made to the Development Department of Hope Hospice 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life, to be held in Jackson County, Indiana, for friends and relatives. This will be made known at a later date. We, Mick’s family, want to make sure everyone has a chance to tell the last joke, make the last pun, pull the last prank or tell the last story on our much-loved husband, dad, and brother, Mick Gray.
